Construction starts on B&M retail development in Crieff

Construction work has started on the £4.5 million B&M store and garden centre development in Crieff. On Monday morning, Perth and Kinross Councillor Rhona Brock took part in a sod-cutting ceremony at the Broich Road site to officially mark the commencement of work.

London & Scottish Developments, part of Glasgow-based London & Scottish Property Investment Management engaged Muir Construction to build the 29,500 sq ft retail outlet and garden centre, as well as 84 parking spaces. The development will also see the creation of a footpath along Broich Road that links with the existing public footpath to improve connectivity with the town centre.

The development will create 50 long-term retail jobs as well as 30 construction jobs during the build and fit-out phases. Muir Construction is currently progressing the groundworks and the build is expected to be completed in July 2021.

Rhona Brock of Perth and Kinross Council said: “It was a pleasure to have been invited along to a socially distanced first dig for the forthcoming B&M. I welcome the store as it will bring employment to the area and give the community of Strathearn another outlet to shop without having to travel out of the area. At the same time, it will bring customers to the many other shops on our High Street that have so much to offer.

“This development also brings a new footpath, linking to the existing footpath, which will be welcomed by many. I look forward to watching the site develop in the coming months.”

Andy Richardson, Group Development Director at LSPIM said: “I am delighted to see the commencement of work on this new and exciting retail outlet. As well as complementing Crieff’s existing High Street offer, the B&M store and parking facility will help attract additional shoppers to Crieff town centre, provide the public with more choice and enhance their overall shopping experience.

“This site project represents the latest in a series of successful retail developments in collaboration with B&M, which opened a store on our retail park in Cowdenbeath last Christmas. We have also secured them as tenants for retail developments in Cupar (opening 2021) and Barrhead (opening 2022).”
